has anyone got any information about stitches, how to avoid them, what they are, anything would be handy. thanks

There's no one answer to that, but lots of opinions. The common belief are that diet is most directly responsible. Make sure you eat easily digestible foods and give yourself a solif 4 hours to digest before running. Being well hydrated will also help, and focusing on deep, relaxed breathing should, too. And of course, improved conditioning usually yields less side aches.
