Having calf cramps . Ran a marathon and they started coming on around mile 14 and ran thru them but got worse at 24 and walk ran 2 miles and the final 2 miles was so slow had to walk and jog a few steps at a time. Can you tell me what could be the culprit? the cramps will go into the arch of my feet sometimes.

If you aren't currently stretching thouroughly and hydrating, those could be likely culprits. Bad shoes (too stiff) could play a part, too. And of course, running 26 miles on pavement could have something to do with it!

Probably not, but I know my calf/achilles area tightens up if the shoe is too stiff. A light, flexible shoe goes a long ways toward correcting the problem. Fit is key, comfort a close second.

Hi Anonymous,
I Know its late to be answering you
but betterlate than never!Dan gave you very sound
replies to your calf cramps dilema...but here's
more info..Eat bananas....if you are turned off
by them .- eat strawberries.Sounds like your potassium supplies are low and everyone knows
that the two above mentioned fruits are very high
in potassium..Strawberries more so than Bananas.

Runningly...

Two other pointers along the same lines:

1) Kiwis are probably the best source of potassium.

2) If supplementing potassium, you should also supplement quality magnesium, which helbs to absorb the potassium.
