Depends what your goals and level of competition are. For any ol' reasonably athletic person, those are very good. For high school, they're solid. For college, they're on the average to slow side.

Hmmm .... I guess it really depends on where you are ... As well as your goals ... I am in California and here you need to be around 11.00/22.70 or so if you are in high school and hope to do well in a small conference ..

If you want to go to state and be competitive (as in make a final) then you need to be around 10.60/21.70 or so ... If you want to medal at state you need to be around 10.50/21.20 ...

Community Colleges here you should be in the 10.70/21.50 range to compete well ... And if you want to go to the CC state meet you probably need to be closer to 10.50/21.40 ... To medal 10.40/21.00 ...

Div III colleges around 10.90/22.50 .. Div II 10.60/21.50 .. Div I 10.50/21.20 ... In all cases if you want to be competitive ...

Tke into account that California is a big track and field state and the sprints are very competitive here ... but I feel if you want to compete you have to know what to shoot for ... Wink

Shaun, here in Georgia we have 5 classifications in high school comp. Your 11.8 would get you into the finals in the two smallest classifications. The 24.8 would not make the finals in any of the classes.

But either one of them would make me look like a slug. Embarassed

I thought you were a distance guy anyway. Or middle distance?

To illustrate the differences between regions, move just a bit north and those times would make you the #1 runner in Oregon, including DI !!!

Shaun, I think people are going to want to know, now, what your 400m and 800m times are. I know that I am curious. 11.8 and 24.8 are quite credible sprint times for a middle distance athlete. Even better if you are a serious 5K or 10K competitor.

i havent competed competitively on track for about 3 years now due to laziness mostly and the odd injury or illness. my pr are as follows for other events:

400m = 56 (non - competition and along time ago about when i was 14)
800m = 2:10 (age 16)
1500m = 4:40 (age 16)
5k = 17:34 (age 18)
10k = 38:18 (age 19)
half marathon= 1:29:59 (age 19)

At the moment im just working on getting fit again and doing the odd road race.
