Has anyone returned to running after a partial menicectomy? I caught a pothole which resulted in a 30% posterior horn tear of my medial meniscus. After 3 1/2 months of limping like Frankenstein, I had the tear arthroscopically removed. My OS said to keep running, but I'm concerned about developing Osteoarthritis down the road from the repetitive pounding of running. Bicycling is OK, but I love to run. Any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated. I'm seven weeks post-op and still gaining my strenghth (and gait) back, but I'd really like to run (even just a few miles a week) again.

Hi Paul,

The degree of medical jargon is over my head, but I have been told it's "fine" to run following meniscal surgery. My understanding is the same as yours, though -- that there may be longterm problems due to the knee having less cushioning. If it were me, I'd do a lot of biking and get in as many runs as possible on grass and trails. Do as much of the good stuff as possible and minimize the potentially harmful things.
