Hello, I am an avid running enthusiast from Iowa. The problem is that I did not listen to my shin splints in my lower right anterior portion of my leg. I heard from someone that this is just a minor irritation which goes away on its own. I have been running a new route which has increased my mileage. However, this longer route entails a short gravel road, uneven sidewalks at times, and more curves. I now have very dull pain toward the medial anterior portion of my lower leg. It feels like it is on the medial side of my tibia. This is a somewhat deep pain, aggravated by walking now. I will try to cut down on my running for a week, but PLEASE give advice upon how this could have happened, and how to heal this.

Hi Joe,
I sympathize with your pain. I'm not too up on my medical terminology, so I don't know for sure that what you're describing is the same thing as what I've experienced. But, if it is, this page might help.
When I had shin splints, running on a surface at an angle -- like a sidewalk or street (angled to the side, not downhill) -- definitely aggravated them.
Best of luck,
