Anyone got any good tips on running the steeplechase? I don't really want to run it but my coach is making me... so i may as well try to run a good time. |

Aim for 30-40 seconds slower than your open 3k time (if you've run one), or fairly close to 3200/2-mile, and base the lap splits on that. Trying to run the steeple at regular 3k pace will hurt pretty bad...
Or is it a 2k steeple? If so, you could probably aim for open 3k pace.

In that case, I would run the steeple for fun/experience. Use the first time to set reasonable goals for the next one.

Whoa, do you have steeplechase in high school? You should consider yourself lucky... _________________ My Athlinks profile - some road races I've done and stuff |

Lucky? I consider myself abused. Steeple was fun...i guess. It was one of the hardest races i have ever run. But that may just be becasue i was pretty dead from the two mile. I pred at 11:02, took 21 seconds off my old pr. I finished 4th in my section The steeple i ran in 11:54 finsihed 8th in my section, scoring again All in all a very good day. Well i have just one more meet left this year and im running the mile, Going to try to break 5, my teammates think i have th ability to run a 4:55-4:50 mile so ill see how it goes. |

That's pretty good, running your first steeple within ~50 seconds of your open 3k time, especially as part of a tough double.

Thanks dan. Also wanted to mention that i got to run with the number one ranked high school steeplechase runner, Colin Seidl, so that was pretty cool. |
