When I jog or sprint and I look at my feet it looks that my stride is around 6 inches longer than when I walk and it seems very small, yet I can run 100 meters in 12.37 seconds. Im not feeling a gliding or "galloping" motion as you might say. It seems kind of rigid when I sprint rather than a smooth-like motion. Does anyone know how I can fix that? When I sprint its like my heels are kicking my bottom and it seems so unprofessional.

I know we've already covered this, but you really need to seek out a coach, or at least a training partner. You'll never solve biomechanical problems without visual feedback.

You can get books; but someone must record you (visual), and you must play it back, and see from the view point of an observer. It is great to have a coach because, as much as we hate to admit to it, we all tell mistruths to ourselves . . . and the coach can be another anybody.

Hey Angelo; where do you live? If you cannot help yourself, we may try to help you.
If I were you, I would write to both USATF and your local state or area USATF.

I live in Colorado. The thing is that I have the potential to get a sub 4 minute at 17 years old. The other thing is that my parents are not getting me envolved in anything with running. I cant go to an event thats like out of the city. I cant do cross country after highschool to prove myself because they work everytime and no body can pick me up. I already take piano lessons, and also having a coach is way too expensive. I figure that even if I run 3:50 for example in 11th grade the school won't do anything about it to sponsor me, etc. The record is 4:09 at my school and the guy who ran it was not like interviewed on the news or anything. What I think of school sports is just a bunch of people that join just for fun, not for performance. No one who does after school sport trains while its hailing, through blood and sweat, etc. Though I could join XC next year if everything works out right with transportation. And my school competes in events at state level, I havent seen national yet. If I could get a time thats really good to take my school up to national and gain prestige.

It might look like I am running smoothly from a person's point of view, but I myself feel unstable.

There's no nice way to say this, so I'm just going to come right out with it and hope that you're receptive enough for some of it to sink in...

I have no idea how talented or motivated you are, but from your own words, it's clear that you are extremely out of touch with the sport and your own training. As such, 1) I am skeptical any claims of your sub-4 potential ... sounds like a bunch of hot air, and 2) you'll never come remotely close to that supposed potential until you take the big first step of committing to learning about your sport instead of assuming you have all the answers. Right now, you're making too many mistakes to count.

Actually I know a lot about the sport. I know about Vo2 max, aerobic endurance, anaerobic endurance, fartleks, how to build power, etc. As I said beforeI take running like a pro and I literally throw up from time to time because I push myself beyond what is required. My mile time IS 4:55 and yes I just turned 15 this August 26th. In January i wil lsay it right out, my mile time was a whooping 6:55. The reason I got down so fast is beacuse intensity. In my workouts I do not seek quantity or time, I seek quality. I LITERALLY use more intensity on an aerobic workout than needed. I believe I can run a sub 4 minute at the age of 17, and yes I do believe I can be the youngest person to run sub 4 minute better than Ryun. Of course this might all sound silly to everyone here because Im just a kid that nobody knows and talking on a running chat. The truth is oddly enough, I dont have presitge to prove it, which is why right now this year I want to join State Championship then go national, then international to Iaaf and Olympics. Im not a runner that says I got some 1st place in this or that because it is hard to gain prestige. My name Is Dan O'Bryan if you ever happen to know of me soon. Who knows, at 20 I might be in Sports Illustrated. And I do argue because thats what good runners do, they state their point and wait for an opinion. To tell you the truth I have learned a lot from this forum, and I thank all who has such great advice.

I also believe that 4:10 for a mile is a poor time as I always want to push myself beyond the limits. Extremely out of touch with running....actually to tell you the truth which is kind of embarrasing I actually cry sometimes while im not running that I will give it my best. This helps to motivate me and I get really emotional if I miss a session. And about being out of touch with my training...well I think I can udnerstand why you might say that because of one:I ask a lot of questions and it appears that I am a muppet, and two: because I force myself. I use Hicham's training, the best middle distance runner in the world. I am not some kid that came up with a poor training routine without documentation and background knowledge. I studied on the internet about vo2, training programs, etc. If you want the link to the training program that I use here it is: http://run-down.com/guests/mv_el_guerrouj.php

mind>matter.
