I know its a Youth Championship but there are some outstanding 17 and under athletes that will be participating this year. I'm just as excited about the Youth Championships as I am about the World Championships this year.

-Jamicia have some outstanding 17 yr old and under sprinters that will compete with our top high schoolers.

-Jordan Hasay will finally get to compete as she meets the minimum age this Championships. Can she medal- I think so! Can she win- what do you think?

Chanelle Price in the 800m- already 2:04 indoors and should medal

Yohan Blake (26 Dec 1989) Jam
still 17 and ran 100M : 10.11 legal this year

for Jordan Hasay she have to face, if they choice the flat 3000m:

Linet Masai (05 Dec 1989)
World X-Country Jr. Champion
5000m........15:12.05

Ai Kinukawa (07 Aug 1989) Japan
10000m......31:35.27

Veronica Wanjiru (1989) Kenya
2007- 3rd World Jr X- Country
2006- 2nd "
2005- 2nd "
ran 15:11 at altitude at age 15

The World Youth Championships have ALOT of athletes 17 and younger posting elite times. I forget the young female steepler who just ran under 9:35 at age 17.

I hope Jordan Hasay still have a chance at a medal, but she will have to raise her game GREATLY. The other chance is that its tactical and she outkicks some of the African girls.

Linet Masai just got faster in the 5000m posting 14:57 after running 2000m at World Record pace with Meseret Defar and Vivian Cheruiyot!

Hasay did quite well and if (big if) she can continue to develop and stay injury free she has the potential to be in the same class as Slaney and Kastor.

Long time no see!

Sort of ironic, putting Slaney and Kastor in the same group... Slaney was the child prodigy -- world class before she was old enough to compete in the Olympics -- while Kastor was the late bloomer, barely even national class until she was out of college.

Yeah I've been around just not a lot of time for posting. Slaney is the obvious comparison for Hasay right now but I hope she can hang on to achieve the kind of success that Kastor has. Remember Julia Stamps? Great high school runner from California who went to Stanford and pretty much dissapeared. That's what we don't want. I saw an interview with Hasay on www.fast-women.com and was impressed with how poised yet down to earth she is for just a 15 year old.

I think you could argue that Stamps disappeared before she got to Stanford. She peaked as a soph/junior, as I recall.

Agreed, everything about Hasay seems very mature and positive.

True on Hasay I have not seen anything bad whatsoever about her... all of her interviews have been poised - but not too poised. SHe is still a kid with a great attitude.

Intersting enough Stamps has resurfaced quite a bit recently on the local scene here in NYC

That's some respectable running. Not the dominance she was originally pegged for, but definitely better than washed up status.
