Just wondering after a high school XC season, why/how long of a break do you need for the upcoming track season? I don't really wanna take a very long break, but some people say it will help me next season.

Most people recommend 2-3 weeks. Just enough to fully recharge but not long enough to lose any measurable conditioning. You can stay active with cross training during that time, of course, just keep it to a moderate level.
