When I'm training on the track should I use the spikes that I wear for racing, or my running shoes? The reason I'm asking is because I figured there is probably less chance of injury or improper running while using running shoes. But they are also slower.

Any help is much appreciated.

Depends what you're doing. If it's just intervals of varying distance, there's no great need for wearing spikes. Like you said, they increase the chance of injury and wear out pretty fast from frequent use. If you're working on block starts, accelerations, or anything quick on a wet and slippery track, then they may be beneficial.

You could argue that one should train in what they are going to race in for familiarity, or you could take the opposite point of view that training in something heavy will make you feel that much faster when you put on something light. All considered, I'd say there's no clear advantage one way or the other, so base it on what you're doing and what you hope to accomplish with the workout.
