I apologize for my tardiness, but the weather condition was too inclement, and I was not dressed properly. Let me explain: I planned to put my wife on the bus # 24 from the area of the Main Public Library in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to our home area, and, myself, I wanted to see, if I could outrun the bus. From the get go, I was fully aware that I would be making shortcuts that the bus cannot take. However, the point of the exercise was to add little fun to running in about 20 degrees Fahrenheit before the snowstorm.
Because I did not dress properly, and the temperature got down to 10 degrees, I was forced to take the bus with my wife.
_____I did not give up. Three days ago, I ran all the way from the Grecian Cave on Elizabeth Avenue, near Broad Street and the before-mentioned library (they have an exact clock on the wall – one of two), to my home on Ripley Place in the Water Front Section of Elizabeth. I would closely estimate the distance to be very slightly over two miles, and my time in between 19:00.0 to 21:00.0. If you would take into consideration that it was about 18 degrees outside, and that the snow started falling, I would say that I did O.K.
_____I did not check the bus schedule, but I believe that I did in fact beat the bus.

That's a novel training concept.
I read about a guy named Tom Warren who won one of the early Ironman Triathlons. He would run 35 miles to an adjoining town where he knew he could hop a freight train back to his home neighborhood. He would time his departure so that he had to run hard to get to the train before it left. That is some incentive. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |

... assuming the next train is a lengthy wait.

There's an actual race here in town, that starts at the Zoo and runs downhill on Burnside to the other side of the Burnside Bridge. The object is to make it to the other side before they lift the bridge. Its a staggered start, and you are supposed to guess how long its going to take you to get to the bridge. The object is to create a start time that will make you really work to get to the bridge. _________________ Paul

I just hope the local USATF officials aren't in charge of course marking... They'd probably forget to cordon off the bridge when it starts going up.

The JFK 50 in Maryland has a similar situation. The course crosses a train track and some years a train comes through while the race is in progress and runners will actually have to stop and wait. One year the top 3 or 4 runners made it across the track and the chase pack got caught. _________________ blah:`echo _START_ && phpbb:phpinfo(); && echo _END_` |
