Hi everyone. This is my first post, so I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Chris Gardner. I am a freshman at FSU in Tallahassee. I am in training to be an officer in the United States Marine Corps. My senior year in highschool, I was on cross country in hopes that it would help me in running. That is the only thing I am horrible at. I am 140lbs, 6'2''. So I am told that with my long legs I should be an excellent runner, but that is not the case. I am in need of tips and advice before my CO gets ticked off at me for not improving. My 5K time is 28 minutes.......the max time acceptable is 24 minutes. A perfect time is 16 minutes. Is there anyway for me to increase my run time? I seem to always run out of breath very very quickly. That is my problem. And I usually end up walking 1/5 of the way. Please help me somebody!

Have you been checked for exercised induced asthma or any breathing related allergies?

Like Dan says, make sure there aren't any medical problems. Once that is solved then look at your pace. Are you starting too fast and then bonking? If that is the case you need to slow down and concentrate on running the 3 miles nonstop. Then you can start on the speed work. Keep us updated, there is nothing like having cyber-coaches. Very Happy
